27 Inch Antique Brass Nataraj Murti

Look at his face first. The eyes are half closed, the lips hold a calm smile, and a third eye sits in the middle of the forehead, cut neatly by hand. Behind the head, his long hair flies out to both sides in thin wavy locks, as if he is turning fast in the dance.

That close look tells you how well this 27 inch antique brass nataraj murti is finished. The antique polish gives it a deep brown and gold tone, darker in the lines and brighter on the raised parts, so every carved detail shows clearly.

The rest of the murti

Lord Shiva dances inside a big ring of flames, with a kirtimukha face at the very top of the ring. He has four arms. One front hand is raised to bless you, and the other crosses his body and points down towards his lifted foot. Cobras curl around his arms and waist, and a long sash flows out to one side. His other foot presses down on Apasmara, the dwarf demon of ignorance, who lies on a round lotus seat above a tall stepped base. At 17.5 kg it needs two people to lift and a strong, wide spot.

What Nataraj means

Nataraj means king of dance. His dance is believed to show the turning of the world, and the foot on Apasmara is believed to show knowledge winning over ignorance. Dancers, music teachers and Shiva bhakts often keep a nataraj murti where they practise or pray. Dust it with a soft brush. Do not use lemon or brass polish on the antique tone.

Give him a wall of his own with a light from above, and he will draw every eye in the room.

What are your murtis made of?

We offer both brass and stone murtis, handcrafted by skilled artisans. The material, exact size and weight of each murti are listed in the product details on this page.

Will the murti look exactly like the photos?

Every murti is handmade, so small differences are natural. Brass murtis can vary slightly in colour and finish, and stone murtis can show natural veins, shade and texture of the stone. The design and size stay the same as shown.

How do I clean and care for my murti?

Brass: wipe gently with a soft, dry cotton cloth. Avoid water, lemon and chemical polish. Brass slowly develops a warm patina over time; this is natural.

Stone: dust with a soft dry cloth, or a slightly damp cloth if needed, and let it dry fully. Avoid acidic cleaners, soaps and harsh chemicals. Handle with care and place it on a stable, flat surface, as stone can chip if it falls.

Which payment options are available?

You can pay securely online using UPI, debit or credit cards and net banking.
